Continuing education is one of the cornerstones of the professional beauty industry. Here are my top five tips for making the most of continuing education early on in your career:

1. Attend Hair Shows

Shows are for more than shopping. Watch and learn from some of the best in our business. Make attending at least one major show every year a career priority.

2. Research Online

You can get lost for hours in a ton of great information on sites like YouTube. Quantity over quality can sometimes be very informative and inspiring.

3. Invest in Classes in Your Area of Interest

Focus. Our industry is highly specialized now. Key in on your area of specialty and become an "ultra-expert", a true master of your craft

4. Brush Up on Your Business Skills

Do not skip the non-technical business classes. These classes are typically only lightly attended. You get great up-close time with the business wizards of our industry. This is some of the most important information you need to learn.

5. Follow Up Post-Class

Don’t be shy! Take great notes & ask questions after the show. Follow the presenter on social media.

Remember, continuing education is the “gift that keeps on giving” long after the class session is over.
