Here’s a quick question for students:  You’ve enrolled in beauty school to prepare for an exciting, meaningful career in the beauty industry. So what’s the best way to challenge yourself, gain access to stellar education, and prepare for a successful job search?

Answer:  Beacon - the beauty industry’s preeminent national student competition sponsored by the Professional Beauty Association (PBA).

Top Beacon entrants win industry-wide recognition and an invitation to the Beacon event to spend three amazing days at the International Salon and Spa Expo in Long Beach, CA, January 25-27, 2019. There will be 300 students from across the country selected from the applicants to experience world-class educational classes, meet beauty industry icons, and visit hundreds of booths at one of the largest beauty trade shows in America.

Let’s admit it, every student knows that they should start making connections and pushing themselves to begin looking for a job while they’re in school. However, it can feel really overwhelming and maybe even a little intimidating. The Beacon Program is designed to help students prepare for life after cosmetology school, providing the motivation and the resources to support students in taking that initial leap in a way that’s both exciting and rewarding.

As a Beacon entrant, the tools that you submit to enter the competition double as the tools you’ll need for job searching and placement to launch a successful career in the professional beauty industry.  These tools include a resume, letter of recommendation, portfolio of images, and a marketing piece.

Resume development, in itself, is a huge step in the right direction of getting really clear about your career goals. In crafting a resume, you begin to uncover how much you’ve accomplished and get a chance to highlight your skills, your interests, and your passions in a way that stands out from the crowd.

We know that students are hungry for a challenge and are excited to get outside of their comfort zones to test their professional capacity. Beacon provides the opportunity to compete against the nation’s most promising students while also preparing to secure a job. Plus, you may be one of the 300 students chosen to attend the Beacon event in January 2019 at the International Salon and Spa Expo in Long Beach, CA.

Beacon entries are currently being accepted. Apply before August 2nd and use code “beaconbcn to get 40% off of your entry fee. (The regular entry fee is $50, but by using this code your fee is only $30. You’ll also receive a 1-year student membership to the Professional Beauty Association - a $25 value!). Make sure to take advantage of this great opportunity! To learn more about the benefits of applying to and attending Beacon plus all of the details on how to enter, visit probeauty.org/beacon
